Wright to Continue 2-Way with Thunder

Defender Madi Wright returns to Thunder as part of ongoing 2-way agreement with Solihull Vixens of the WNIHL Elite League

GB Women’s International Madi Wright has committed to another season with Thunder, after a successful 2024/25 campaign which saw her make her debut for her country at the Olympic Qualification tournament in Sheffield. As part of an ongoing agreement with Solihull Vixens Madi will represent Thunder when schedules allow. Madi took to the ice in a Thunder jersey 13 times last year, registering one assist and proving herself more than capable at NIHL 1 level. For Vixens in the WNIHL Elite League she returned 10 points in 18 games and appeared for the GB team 3 teams at the pre-mentioned tournament.

In her first year with Thunder Madi quickly became a popular member of the locker room, and everyone at the club was delighted when she achieved her international call up. Her impact on and off the ice was noticeable, acting as a role model to many of the MK Storm juniors, particularly those on the female teams embarking on their first campaign. A dedicated and hard working player, the club are delighted to welcome Madi back for another season and we look forward to continuing to support her development and aspirations in the game.

Madi made the following statement on her decision to return to Thunder:

I’m really pleased to be back with Thunder for a second year. The whole club was so welcoming and even though I was the only female in the group, the guys in the team treated me exactly the same as them. It was a tough year in NIHL 1, but I learned a lot from coaches, teammates and opposition. The development pathway that Thunder are providing to young players, which includes girls and women, is totally invaluable. I don’t expect NIHL2 to be any less of a test, but I felt my first season at NIHL1 level went well. It has made me even more determined to continue working hard to improve myself and contribute to the team.

Head Coach Will Fry commented on Madi re-committing to Thunder:

Im pleased that Madi has chosen to return for another year. We had a great working relationship last season and it was fantastic that we were able to play a small role in her aspirations to represent her country – where she proved more than capable of having a long and prosperous international career. Her intelligence and technical qualities really shone through at NIHL 1 level, she was not fazed by the speed or physicality and was a dependable and consistent option whenever we were able to have her with us for games. Madi is an exceptional role model, and I expect her to pick up where she left off this season and we all look forward to continuing to support her ongoing development in partnership with Solihull Vixens.

Madi’s Home & Away jerseys, she will again wear the number 10, are available now for own and loan, at a cost of £80 each. Please email mkthundericehockey@gmail.com to reserve yours today.
